Freelancer Angela Catlin is a former colleague from my days at The Herald and
one of the most gifted and experienced photographers in the world. Angela has
won numerous awards for her photography including Feature Photographer of the Year at the UK National Picture Editor Awards and Scottish Photographer of the Year on two occasions.
She has worked in places such as Rwanda, Srebenica, Cambodia and Columbia and kept me sane in the cauldrons of Guatemala and Haiti. I’ve worked on a number of projects with Angela including an investigation into the rise of neo-Nazism in Russia. Our work in Moscow was acknowledged by Amnesty International and we won both the Scottish Media Award and the Nations and Regions Award for our reportage.
Most recently a feature we produced for Scotland On Sunday highlighting the
racism suffered by the Roma in Scotland won the UK leg of the EU Journalist
Award 2007, and came third overall in Europe out of more than 800 entries.
Angela and I are working on a number of projects at the moment to highlight
human rights abuses across the world.
