Welcome to my website.
My name is Billy Briggs and I'm a freelance journalist in Scotland, United Kingdom, who focuses on public interest issues. I'm a former staff writer with The Herald newspaper in Glasgow who left to freelance in 2006.
Since then my reports have been published by, among others: The Guardian, The Sunday Times, Scotland On Sunday, The Herald, The National, Sunday National, The Scotsman, The Times, The Observer, New Statesman, Daily Record, Mail On Sunday, Irish Examiner, New Zealand Herald, The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, Al Jazeera and the BBC.
I've reported from more than 20 countries on issues such as human rights violations, far right extremism, femicide, child labour, human trafficking and Islamist terrorism. Foreign dispatches include stories from Gaza, Haiti, India, Iraq, Israel, Pakistan, Syria and the West Bank.
As a co-founder, director and editor of investigative website, The Ferret, I'm fortunate to be involved with Scotland's only not-for-profit media organisation dedicated to public interest journalism. The Ferret has been nominated twice for a British Journalism Award.
